Family mediation is a process in which an impartial third party assists separating or divorcing couples to communicate and to try and reach their own agreement in relation to finances and children.

A mediator cannot provide legal advice but it is open to either party, either during or at the end of mediation, to take legal advice on the proposed agreement reached by way of mediation.

Mediation is an entirely voluntary process. The negotiations are private and cannot be referred to in any subsequent Court proceedings.
